Triathlete Aniek Mars supported by Reggeborgh Foundation

Reggeborgh Foundation will support triathlete Aniek Mars from Raalte. Mars (20) thus follows in the footsteps of judoka Jelle Snippe and wheelchair tennis ace Maarten ter Hofte, who are also included in Reggeborgh Foundation’s Green Apples programme. Mars, who became Dutch champion in the under-23 age category last Sunday, is among those receiving support for her participation in European Cup competitions. On Saturday 29 June, Mars will be at the start of the Holten Triathlon where she will compete in the Europe Triathlon Premium Cup.

From childhood, it was clear that Aniek Mars was athletically inclined. She liked to climb and clamber on top of everything. Nevertheless, she chose competitive swimming, in addition to competing in running events with her sister. Through a youth clinic at Triade Zwolle, Mars was introduced to the sport of triathlon five years ago. This went well for her; to her surprise, she instantly competed well at the Dutch Championships. Currently, Mars trains full-time at the National Triathlon Training Centre in Sittard. Her goal is clear; in 2028, she wants to compete at the Olympics in Los Angeles.

Triathlon is a sport where the best performances are often achieved later in life. ‘As a young triathlete in the big senior field, I will need the next few years to grow in my endurance ability and my speed.’

‘I’m extremely grateful to be able to work on my world ranking with the support and trust of Reggeborgh Foundation. How cool is it that I can learn from other Reggeborgh athletes in the process? That alone is going to help me immensely.’

‘Driven athletes like Aniek fit very well into our Green Apples programme. Triathlon is also a sport with which we have a lot in common, as we have been associated as a sponsor with the wonderful Holten Triathlon event and with the Argo triathlon club for many years. We therefore really like the fact that we can now support and follow Aniek as a talented triathlete in her career. It’s a sport with a lot of training work and that requires full commitment and perseverance. This sport will see Aniek develop great qualities that will help her throughout her life and enable her to inspire young people. We’re proud to add a Dutch champion to our Reggeborgh athletes' family,’ Inge Wessels said on behalf of Reggeborgh Foundation.
