Reggeborgh will once again support special athletes

At the Dutch Disability Inline Skating Championships at Rijssen’s inline skating track, the Special Sport Events Twente foundation and Reggeborgh renewed their partnership. This as a follow-up to the successful partnership around the National Special Olympics Twente in 2022. Inspired by disability sports athletes, associations and the many volunteers, the Foundation maintains its ambition, under the banner of Special Sport Events Twente, to create a lasting stage for athletes with intellectual disabilities.

‘We would like to make our contribution to Special Sport Events Twente,’ says Inge Wessels. ‘We saw during the National Special Olympics how important it is for these athletes to play sports. The fun and enthusiasm were clear for all to see. The Reggeborgh Foundation believes it’s important that everyone have the opportunity to play sports. With the activities organised by Special Sport Events Twente, people with disabilities can also experience this enjoyment of sports, which is why we have entered into another partnership with them.’

Claudio Bruggink, chairman of Special Sport Events Twente: 'We are extremely happy that once again, with the support of Reggeborgh, we are able to give a wonderful follow-up to the National Special Olympics. Thanks to the Reggeborgh Foundation, athletes with disabilities can continue to participate in beautiful events in Twente. The impact is huge for athletes. Receiving applause and medals gives them a huge boost. With this, new friendships are born, thresholds are overcome and self-confidence grows. And that's what we do it all for.'

Special Friends Sports Day

The first event will be held on Saturday 10 June 2023. Exactly one year after the Special Olympics,- the Foundation will kick off with the Special Friends Sports Day. A sporty day in and around the FBK athletics stadium with competitions, sports discovery, relaxation and entertainment. Again, hundreds of athletes gather with family and friends to enjoy a great day. The credo of 'Always a Winner' also gets a follow-up. All participants will be honoured with a colourful medal at the end of the day. Last but not least, the sports day is also the symbolic starting moment of the journey to the World Special Olympics in 2035. The Foundation has the ultimate desire to bring the very biggest Special Olympics stage to Twente.

Top athletes meet top athletes

To add lustre to the partnership with Reggeborgh, Michelle de Jong and Janno Botman of the Reggeborgh speed skating team were challenged by Special Olympics athletes Gabriel and Teun for a 200-metre sprint on the inline skating track. As Gabriel and Teun crossed the finish line cheering for the elite speed skaters, their achievements were rewarded with a high five!
