Reggeborgh main sponsor of Maarten van der Weijden’s Elfsteden triathlon challenge
From 18 to 24 June, former Olympic champion Maarten van der Weijden will take on the extreme challenge of completing the Elfsteden triathlon past 11 cities in the Netherlands’ Friesland province. Maarten will swim ‘non-stop’ for 200 kilometres, cycle 200 kilometres and walk 200 kilometres. With the aim of raising as much money as possible for cancer research. Reggeborgh has committed to this special event as the main sponsor.
Eleven cities, eleven research projects
During the Elfsteden triathlon, thousands of participants are expected to help Maarten complete this special challenge by swimming, cycling or walking with him through the iconic Frisian landscape. It will also highlight cancer research funding, including by featuring patients, family members and doctors in each city, 11 in all. This makes it immediately tangible where the money raised will be going and highlight the need to fund these research projects.
‘Last year, we came into contact with Maarten van der Weijden and immediately became enthusiastic about his story. Besides the extraordinary achievement, what especially appeals to us is that 100% of the money raised by Maarten and the participants goes directly to cancer research,’ said Inge Wessels of the Reggeborgh Foundation.
‘I’m extremely proud that Reggeborgh is the main sponsor of this event. In addition to supporting us financially, Reggeborgh also brings expertise in medical scientific research that Reggeborgh already supports at several teaching hospitals. I realise that completing the Elfstedentocht ice skating tour as a triathlon is quite a challenge. I therefore train daily and do everything possible to be as prepared as possible at the start on 18 June,’ said Maarten van der Weijden.
