Reggeborgh Foundation welcomes athlete Max Swabedissen

Reggeborgh Foundation will support talented athlete Max Swabedissen (20) from Rijssen through the Green Apples programme. Swabedissen, who specialises in the 800 and 1500 metres, will receive financial support for his training and competition programme. ‘My big dream is to be at the Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028,’ he said.

Swabedissen dreamt of the Olympics as a five-year-old. He started his career at his local athletics club, AV Rijssen, where his talent was soon noticed. He joined David Hutten's AV Rijssen talent team and then made the move to the Dutch selection. For 5.5 years now, the Rijssen native has been training at Papendal under the guidance of Honere Hoedt. A year ago, he moved into the residence for elite runners at Papendal. Among other achievements, Max won a silver medal in his age category at the Dutch Athletics Indoor Championships. In the seniors, he ran to 10th place with a time of 3’51” in the 1,500 metres event. Now his focus is on qualifying for the European U23 Championships in Sweden next year.

To help Max realise his dream, Reggeborgh Foundation supports his foundation 'Mission Max'. Originally, Max was taught to work hard as well as do something for others: ‘That's why I set up the Mission Max foundation. It now helps me find sponsors for my sport. After my career as an elite athlete, I want to use the foundation to do something for children for whom sport is not a given, such as children with disabilities or children living in poverty. Super cool that Reggeborgh Foundation is supporting me in my ambition to make the step to the top.’

‘We already know Max from his time at the Rijssen athletics club and have watched him grow every year. We’re proud to support a local boy like him, as he takes the next steps in his ambition to reach the top. We think it's great that Max is also committed to helping youngsters and wants to do something for others.’

Reggeborgh Foundation is known in the sporting world for the Reggeborgh speed skating team, which has achieved great success in recent years. Gymnast Sanne Wevers and hand cyclist Jennette Jansen are also supported by Reggeborgh Foundation on their way to the Olympics and Paralympics in Paris. In the medical field, the Foundation supports top talents with the Reggeborgh Research Fellowship training and development programme. This programme gives talented technical physicians the opportunity to research and implement innovations in healthcare. They also develop entrepreneurial skills within Reggeborgh. With the Green Apples programme, the Foundation has added a branch. Under this programme, young adult sporting talents are supported so that they can focus fully on their sporting careers. As part of the programme, the athletes will, in turn, commit to Reggeborgh Foundation’s charities and teach clinics at primary schools and sports clubs. In this way, they pass on their life experiences to new generations of athletes.
