New opportunities for top medical technology talents in Twente
MST (Medisch Spectrum Twente), ZGT (Ziekenhuisgroep Twente) and Reggeborgh Foundation are once again committed to supporting talented doctors and technical physicians in applied scientific research within Twente's top clinical hospitals. After the successful start in 2023, in which four talented fellows started work, recruitment for the second batch will start soon.

Unique collaboration for innovation in healthcare
Reggeborgh Research Fellowship is a unique three-year programme. Both talented doctors and technical physicians are eligible to carry out applied scientific research within one of Twente's top clinical hospitals, ZGT or MST.

‘’In addition to a solid scientific foundation, the programme offers an exclusive training and development programme. In the development programme, the Research Fellows are introduced to the business community and the Reggeborgh Foundation network, among other things. The programme enables the top medical technical talents to develop into figureheads who make an impact with innovations in healthcare through their skills in healthcare, communication and branding, science & innovation and entrepreneurship,‘’ said Miriam Vollenbroek-Hutten, MST board member.
Hilde Dijstelbloem, ZGT chairman of the board, emphasises the importance of this collaboration: ‘Medical technological innovations can enable faster diagnostics, more complex interventions and remote care, among other things. With Reggeborgh Research Fellowship, we are investing together with Reggeborgh Foundation in the future of healthcare and technological advances, but also in the further development of talented people.’

Research programme
The following research programmes have been selected for the second batch of Research Fellows at MST and ZGT:
- Assessing tissue perfusion by a promising fluorescence technique that allows objective and reliable timely recognition of disrupted tissue perfusion and adjusting treatment options accordingly. (FI lab, MST)
- Analysing whether specific patterns during sleep recordings can predict the best treatment for sleep apnoea and whether 3D printed masks increase adherence to the most commonly used treatment. (Pulmonary medicine, MST)
- (Further) developing biomechanical models and virtual planning to optimise the outcomes of complex foot surgery. (Surgery ZGT, Orthopaedics MST, appointment at ZGT)
- Explore the potential for using skin scanners to transform dermatological care in response to growing healthcare demands. (Dermatology ZGT & MST, appointment at ZGT)
Recruitment for the tailored training and development programme started on 20 March. Research Fellows not only receive individual guidance within their research, but also follow a joint mentoring and training programme to boost their professional development.
