Inline skating fun for children with asthma

Enabling children with asthmatic symptoms to be children in society as much as possible; that is exactly the mission of technical physician Mattiènne van der Kamp. Under the banner of the Reggeborgh Research Fellowship, Mattiènne works at the Medical Spectrum Twente hospital to develop a technological tool for children with asthma. Together with Reggeborgh Foundation, he organised an inline skating clinic at the combi track in Hengelo. The event intended especially for children with asthma, their family members and friends was a great success. The children thoroughly enjoyed a sporty and fun experience.

Less suffering from asthma thanks to Puffer app

Reggeborgh Research Fellow Mattiènne van der Kamp's research focuses on improving healthcare for children with asthma. The aim is to help parents and children better understand the symptoms and physical capabilities through a tailor-made asthma action plan. Using a specially developed Puffer app, children can accurately track and manage their symptoms. This can lead to better control of their asthma, which could potentially reduce the use of medication.

‘The children were super enthusiastic and had a lot of fun during the clinic. That, of course, is what it’s all about and why we organised this. We try to optimise healthcare so that children can return to full participation with their peers.’

Reggeborgh Foundation promotes sport and exercise among children, including by organising inline skating clinics in the Netherlands. It is inspiring to see how different worlds come together in this way. We would like to contribute to a healthy future for all and hope that Mattiènne's technological innovation will have a positive impact on young asthmatics.
